REALITY IS IMPERFECT

MEERABAI RAJPUT 'S POV

I always thought that life would be easier if I were a boy . Yes men have freedom and in their opinion all we women are for being a mother or either a harem . I have always loved my life, I love being a woman but I hate the restrictions on us , Sati , gender inequality, pressure of having kids and marriage , no freedom to study. My name is Meerabai Rajput, everyone calls me Meera. I am from a high profile Rajput family .I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers. My father is a strict orthodox man . I never got along well with my family, neither my mother father or any of my siblings. My mother followed father's footsteps and my brothers believe that women don't need freedom and my sisters aren't interested in anything except marriage. I still remember what my father said when I was 10 and went to his library " women aren't for reading, they're there for being good wives and mother's" . Despite my efforts to convince him to let me study he didn't agree. So my father called me " a disgrace" that doesn't hurt me much , my mother once slapped me just because she caught me with books. I am called " a disgraceful girl" . The women of the village keeps their daughters away from me, and my father mother keeps me at a separate room . We don't talk much in a big haveli , I mostly stay in my room on the 3 rd floor. I am 18, and fortunately no man has agreed to marry me because of my " bad habits and character" . All I know about reading is how can I read my name .

AUTHOR 'S POV

The crisp , dry , warm air blows every day now. Monsoon is long awaited, in the badi haveli of the village everyone was sipping sharbat, except the eldest daughter Meera. She was playing Veena in her room .

"What will become of this shameless girl ! Shut the bloody sound up !!! Meera!!" . Bade sahib screamed and the sound stopped.

" Are don't boil your blood my dear , we don't even remember that we have a daughter like her we don't pay attention to her , she chose to be so distant, let's not think about her , we've other daughters too , let's think about the wedding of Leelavati, she's obedient. " Memsaheb of the house said to her husband.

" U are right, the boy's family is coming to see her tomorrow , send Meera out before that. We don't want anyone to see that disgraceful girl with us".

" Yes".
